How Streaming Services Are Transforming Television

Television has come light years away since it first impressed the first batch of viewers several decades ago. Can you imagine how people back in the day were so ecstatic when they first saw TV in color?

Of course, by now, people are not surprised by technological developments in the field of television. From cable programming and DVR, we’re now enjoying TV shows through online streaming services such as Netflix, Sling TV, or any of the services offered by TVProviders.com. That’s why Netflix has more than 40 million subscribers to its streaming service (according to Business Insider), and millions more are subscribed to similar services.

sewwThe increasing trend for video streaming has led other companies to follow suit in offering these premium services. This year alone saw the launch of several streaming services such as HBO Now, PlayStation Vue TV, Showtime Anytime, and Verizon Live TV.

In recent months, Apple is also gaining traction in the rumor mill for its planned streaming service for its revolutionary TV. Aside from offering the fifth generation of its bestselling television, Apple is also set to launch a streaming service. Many analysts say that this move by Apple will create a massive explosion in streaming TV, in the same way that the tech company has revolutionized the mobile device market.

Television viewers are gradually shifting to video streaming to watch their favorite shows, due to the following reasons:

Lower cost

The term “cord cutting” has become increasingly popular, as more cable subscribers are deciding to have their subscriptions cut off so that they can shift to streaming. More than being a more modern way of viewing TV shows, watching TV shows via streaming services is much cheaper than cable subscription.

Customized viewing experience

By using streaming services, you get to choose which shows you pay for. In contrast, cable packages require you to pay for a bundle of channels, some of which you might not even want to watch. In addition, some streaming TV services provide recommendations of TV shows to watch, based on the current ones that you frequently view.

Cable companies are shifting

In an apparent surrender to the trend, cable giant Comcast is now offering a streaming service through Stream, although it currently works on computers and mobile gadgets.

Potential for growth

The personalization experience of streaming services is also impressive, but wait until you realize how this will change the future of TV. Imagine walking into your living room, the TV automatically turns on and it shows recommended programs for you to watch. The rise of streaming TV is also bringing in more channels to give you a wider range of programs to choose from. All of these potential changes will definitely make TV watching much more exciting.

Despite the glowing reviews, streaming services are not perfect. According to Tech Insider, streaming isn’t as reliable as satellite or cable TV at this point. Channel and show selections are also fairly limited. Nevertheless, it’s only a matter of time when streaming service providers will upgrade their systems to address the common kinks of their services and bring a much more satisfying TV experience.

The world of television keeps changing throughout the years. With the surge of tech updates for TV, the possibility of floating TV screen projections and brain-implanted video streaming services shouldn’t be too far off.
